Firefighter Fit
This section of the site provides those wanting to be or those who are the importance of being firefighter fit. As a firefighter you will be called upon to use all your muscular and cardio strengths to carry out your day to day job, carrying, pushing, pulling, dragging, lifting, walking, running, crawling.
Don’t forget if you run everyday your cardio system will be fine but your upper body strengths may not be. Likewise if you spend all day in a gym pumping weights you may have upper body strength but your cardio system will suffer. It is a case of striking the right balance to keep the body working together.
An example in a firefighter’s working day would be, if you run every day you could become tired quickly, if you have to carry some heavy equipment. Alternatively if you lift weights all day you will struggle to run hundreds of meters of hose out.
We will give you an insight in becoming firefighter fit, it’s not just the physical but mental fitness you have to obtain. Have a look at our exercise pages and focus your mind to achieve a fitness level needed to become a firefighter.
Staying fit and keeping active is essential not just for firefighting duties but for an improved quality of life - being able to do things you enjoy for longer periods of time.
