Castleford firefighters get the bird 07/05/10
![]() |
Firefighters left all aflutter as Blackbird builds its nest on the first floor ledge in the drill tower at Castleford fire station.
The tower has been declared out of bounds whilst the Blackbird is nesting – crews have now to travel to neighbouring fire stations for their tower training.
Blackbirds and their nests are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, which makes it an offence to take, damage or destroy the eggs, young or nest of a blackbird while it is being built or in use.
